Artist's Comments

So ^Ikue is creating a vector calendar, that has each month created by 12 vector artists. I don't think I've actually done a collab with her until now, but I partnered up with `shebid for this one!

The relation between this piece and January is not only the whole 'asteroid coming to destroy the earth', meaning that it's the start of a new beginning, but also, well, those 2010 blocks show that it's related to now.

We were going to give the dinosaur a coffee cup, but decided that giving him arms would make him anatomically incorrect. :B

Let us know what you think!! We had a ball doing this, and think it's a BRILLIANT opener to 2010!

Manda, I will definitely be collaborating with you again - you're one awesome chicka!

Chris, this is a joke. Although we were tempted to use it as our finished piece, we know that you believe we could do much better. Lots of love, Manda and Kell

Critiques

One hundred word minimun? What is this? Nazi DA critiquing central? Yeah I said it! What are you going to do? You think your little delicious sun is going to make it any better? No! Anyway, onto what I was doing before.
Vision: It's very colorful, and I can definitely see it. So I'll give it 5 stars.
Originality: What's more original than a dino in business casual attire chillin' with a deliciousfayce sun, sadmoon and astroid? And pink snow? I give you SIX stars for originality!
Technique: I'm assuming you vectored while standing on your head in a pool of vinegar while balancing an exercise ball on your foot. Fantastic technique.
Impact: I once had a bowl impaction. Was not very fun. Oh right, Your dino snow dude. It's impacting, but not as impacted as a bowl obstruction. Whoo boy!

The significance of this piece is very powerful. The dawn of the new day, the hidden undertones... it's simply wonderful.

I mean who else but Kelly and Manda would think to juxtapose the happy sun with the fearful moon. We as a race don't listen to the moon enough he saw this day coming long before anyone and tried to warn us. We've seen his unhappy face and have done nothing... and yet, he still feels sadness for the events about to take place. We could all learn something from his benevolence.

Another stroke of genius is how you made the connection between the dinosaurs and the human race. Dressing him in a bathrobe was simply brilliant! The dinosaurs lived through this same scenario before! I mean who else better to show us what will come if we continue the way we do now? No one that's who.

I do however believe that you should have gone through with your original plan and given him a steamy cup of coffee. Yes you loose anatomical correctness but you gain political correctness! The coffee could have stood for natural resources, the very resources the dinosaurs who died helped create. They set the way for all of our modern technology that uses such resources and to see him enjoying a steamy hot cup of his fallen brethren would have just put this piece over the top.

I must say even with that one fatal flaw this piece is still just as poignant and thought provoking as any renaissance piece. The shiny desu child blocks that symbolize how young we are as a race and candied frosted mountains that show how sweet this world really is, is just insightful beyond our time.

It would be an honor to have this as the first thing people see in this calendar project. I just hope the rest of the entries can live up to its profound nature. You two are masters and I hope to see more stunning pieces come from the two of you. The world needs vision such as this.

I don't think adding arms will make the dino any more or less anatomically correct.

Add arms. Dino needs coffee.
