But I think over time it turned into something a little more.
This is the beginning of a style that I'm trying. You've probably seen the base idea countless times before, but I want to make it more like it's mine. If you've got no idea what I'm talking about, it's lineart with basic shading.
This contest was a perfect place to try it out because the main stipulation of the contest was to use only five colours, with no tints/shades allowed. (This is the colour palette if you're curious [link])
I'm not sure how long this took me to do, probably longer than it would if I was to do something like this again, but you get that when you're developing something new.
The subject matter? A Honda Jazz. Which is actually the car that I own. Unfortunately, this is the sporty sibling of my car, and the original image can be found at [link]
As always, comments and criticisms are appreciated.
I really love the colours in this piece and how they all fit together so beautifully! The fact that you only used five makes it more impressive to me, since I know that picking a pallette isn't easy. The texture for the background works really well and helps put more focus on the car. All in all: great work! :3
I got lucky with this scheme - #vexelove had already chosen it, it was just up to the entrants to decide how to use it. After figuring out how to make it work (I was really inexperienced with picking out highlights, shadows and midtones, and that's a huge part of vectoring well, so that was a feat in itself ), it turned out really well!
And agreed, the gradient in the background helped make the car jump out.
Thanks so much! I'll have to head over to your gallery at some point to leave a comment on one of your pieces as a thankyou.
