New deviation is now up. The first one in... well since February 2011. A long, long time ago!

I'm now going to move into the process of fixing up my business website, which I'm really hoping won't take forever. When I do have spare time though I'll continue working on my traditional art pieces and planning out some more simple illustrations I can use for the other stuff I had originally planned on selling. Really got my work cut out for me on this one!

If you have 5 minutes to spare and wish to tell me about my 'Oriental Beauty' piece, it would be much appreciated. I haven't done a stippling piece of this scale before, and while I'm extremely happy with the results,  I can see the places where my hand started cramping up. lol Just gotta keep practicing!

I am hoping to try other mediums though. Need to start drawing still life pieces as often as I can, too. So much to do and so little time to do it in (story of everyone's life, hey).

Until next time!
Kell

Not quite at the point where I can say that I'm back for good, but that I'm getting there.

So many messages in my message centre, and everything looks so different! Let the learning curve commence. aha I want to clear them all out and reorganise my gallery before I start posting stuff. And I'm torn in regards to keeping this name or changing it (or using the new account I had created two years ago and start from scratch over there...). Lots of decisions to make, and a fair bit of planning!

It's nearly time for a new adventure, so here's hoping it doesn't take me as long to get cracking this time around!

.. to you! Yes, you, the wonderfully devious members of deviantART.

For the past... 8 or so weeks, my life has been turned upside down and I've been taken on one very long rollercoaster ride.

BUT NO MORE. Now I'm taking the steering wheel back, and things are going to start going my way for a change. :giggle:

I started this change yesterday, and let me say that so far, the initial expectations I had have been blown out of the water. I had a brilliant start to the day, and while the person I'm talking about doesn't follow me here, they truly did make me smile.

So. I have this theory that whenever I really want to do something, I need to make sure that there are a few people who know about it, but more than that, I think it's a way of holding myself accountable; I've said I was going to do something, why on earth would I not carry it out?

What I'm going to be doing is this:
- Leaving at least 3 critiques/critique comments a day
- Keep the art coming. Now my drawing classes have concluded, it's time to step it up with making sure I keep myself motivated and creating.
- Stay on top of college work, and try to get it done before the weekend starts (this one.. yeah we'll see :lmao:)
- Keep my message centre clean. This has suffered so badly this year, but after doing my massive comment-spree yesterday, I think it's getting better.
- Make some concrete plans about what I want to achieve here. I have plans, I just need to work out particulars. And yes, PI is one of them. :B
- Start writing more news articles, journals, features and tutorials. I have knowledge, and an opinion, why on earth am I not sharing it?! :giggle:

So deviants, are you ready for me?
:dalove:

So I have British, Australian, Russian, German and Dutch tendencies. I knew I was a mixed up ball of crazy, but now I can claim to be an international ball of crazy! :lmao:

Ok, so updates.
Work, not too bad. Could be better, but it's much smoother now. :giggle:
Home, well next month is moving out time! I've got boxes EVERYWHERE that are packed up with stuff that I'm taking with me. It's insane. Most of it is new though, so I can't wait to get into the new place and stare at all the shiny-ness I'll have. :giggle:
My little car? Not so great. Two days ago I was in a minor side-on collision accident with a ute. My car copped it as the other guy had a big Landcruiser ute with a sidebar. I've gotta say, I was fuming a little when I saw that there wasn't even paint left on his sidebar, because he had no damage whatsoever! :lmao: So the car's going in to be fixed on the 23rd, and I'm hoping it won't be for more than a week.. I love my car too much. :cries:
College on the other hand is going wonderfully! Once this journal is submitted I'm going to post my first mini-assignment. I think I'll post the other ones as I do them as well, but this one.. I'm just really proud of it. I'm normally very much a digital person, but the course is half digital, half traditional - which was the second most important reason I chose this course over the others. Right now our computer classes are just learning Illustrator, and even though I know my way around it quite well, I'm still learning new stuff! :D It's not leaving me any time to do any art of my own because we have an assignment due each week for our drawing class (Madness! But it's good getting into the swing of constantly drawing.), so hopefully when the college break rolls around I'll be able to play with some watercolours again! :D

Anyway, what have you guys all been up to?

Two weeks on

7 min read
Well my friends, two weeks have passed since the Brisbane floods, and while things are still terribly dysfunctional, they are slowly starting to get better. =)

I have some links for you guys to take a look at if you'd like to see how my work fared. :giggle: (Just click the links to view a larger image. :aww:)

September, 2010

Obviously, we look quite high and dry here. :giggle: Take note of where the creeks are and how much green was there, now scroll down. :B

13th January, 2010

The first two photos were probably just after the peak of the flood. We discovered on the 15th when we went in to clean up that the water had reached 1m high on our second level, so the third photo more or less shows what we looked like underwater.

14th January, 2010

The day after. Lots of water still in places, but if there wasn't water, there was mud.

15th January, 2010

Our clean up day. I couldn't believe how nervous I was that morning... I had no idea what we were going to be driving into. This photo shows the mud level on our wall. Like I said before - that's 1 metre up on our second level.

My first look in my room.. Kinda makes my 'mess' look like nothing I couldn't manage now. :lmao:

The other end of my room. Everything in my room had moved from its original position. Those shelves had toppled forwards, my CD racks had detached from the wall, my desk had slightly shifted, and that desk that's at the front of the photo was actually to the left of the photo up against the wall. The water had completely changed the direction of it. :faint:

Looking at the opposite building in our complex at the end of the day. You can also see the water mark clearly on their wall. Check out that sludge on the ground - it covered EVERYTHING within 30 centimetres of the ground.

One of the many trash piles we had in the complex. We had to throw all our furniture out, all the envelopes with samples from the filing cabinets, and everything except the hard drives from the computers. It was absolutely devastating.

I'm itching to get back there to see how things are looking now. We're currently working temporarily in another Snap store upstairs in their board room. :giggle: It's hot and the air conditioner doesn't work properly, but it's somewhere and that's really what matters. :giggle: We may even be back at Rocklea by the end of next week! I'm a bit sceptical that's the case, but we'll just have to wait and see. It's still a lot quicker than a lot of other places though - one of the other businesses in our complex won't be back until March/April. So like I said, we're very lucky!

So that's some positive news for us. The other bit of positive news I have is that next Thursday I have my college orientation day for my design course! I think the nerves will kick in that morning, but it's become a shining light of distraction for me, so I couldn't be happier that it's come along so quickly! Then a week and a half after that I start my classes, so then we'll really see how far I'm capable of pushing myself. It's a very good thing that this is done out of work hours, I'm not sure how I'd cope otherwise. :giggle:

I've also deleted all comments, journals, news articles and faves/watches from my message centre. With everything being as overwhelming as it is at the moment, I've just kept the deviations and am in the process of commenting on as many of those as I can. I need to get back into the swing of 'normality', and as sad as some people think it is, dA is a huge part of my life. Commenting on deviations, journals and pages is something I've always done, and while the floods have been a huge distracting mess, I need some form of normality back again.

On that note, I'm off to start digging myself out of the deviations I've collected. :B
